Abstract
Ehrlich ascites tumor was induced in mice, and the ribonucleic acid (RNA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) contents were studied for 9 days, using the remote organs of liver and kidney.
A comparison was also made with the normal mice as the control, and the results obtained are summarized as follow:
1) In the normal liver, the DNA content was 78.44,ug/100mg delipided powder, whereas the RNA content was 6.83mg/100mg delipided powder.
In the normal kidney, the DNA content was 47.31 fcg/100mg delipided powder, while the RNA content was found to be 6.30mg/100mg delipided powder.
2) The contents of RNA of both liver & kidney decreased gradually up to the 3rd day after the Ehrlich ascites tumor inocculation, but on the 5th day, the RNA contents increased to the point of the normal value, and then decreased significantly as the days progressed.
On the other hand, the contents of DNA of liver and kidney increased up to the 5th and 3rd day respectively, and then decreased as the tumor developed in the mouse.
3) Form the above results, the authors had an impression that the nucleic acid pattern of the remote organs changes gradually into the cancerous metabolism as the tumor develops in the host animal.
